Laini’s List of 9 Things to Do This Weekend in the Lehigh Valley — Saturday Edition

Life happens. And when it does, things can be a little late. My apologies to those events which have already happened. The good news is there’s still lots to do. There’s even a little old book signing for the pocket guide (shameless self promotion) at the oldest continuously running book store in the country, the Moravian Book Shop. Come say hi!

Saturday & Sunday, 10am to 5pm, Participating Studios, Allentown, Bethlehem, Zionsville, & Topton

Have you ever wondered how an artist or craftsman makes their work? Well this is your chance to see how many of our local artists do what they do best during the Hidden Treasures Artisans Studio Tour. This is a cool way to see what goes into making some these fine pieces of art. You can witness everything from painted silk, to pottery, to jewelry making, and even glass blowing. You might even be inspired yourself!

5. Doors and Windows of Bethlehem Kickoff

Saturday, Participating Bethlehem Businesses, Bethlehem

It may only be the beginning of November but that doesn’t mean that we can’t start bringing out some of the holiday decorations, especially when competition is involved. Businesses throughout Bethlehem will be decorating their doorways in the spirit of the holidays, and viewers can vote on their favorites. Themes include Theatrical, Musical, and Traditional. Voting Begins November 13th and ends December 24th.

6. Veterans of the Blues

Friday, 8pm, Godfrey Daniels, 7 E. 4th St. Bethlehem

There’s nothing like a good Blues show and Maurice John Vaughn has quite the sound. Raised in the city of Chicago, Vaughn was brought up on the best of classic blues and that influence is felt in his music while still keeping his own style. He will also be joined by B.J. Emery and Holle Thee Maxwell. Tickets are $21.50, and $24.50 on the day of the show.

7. The Lehigh Valley Community Health Expo 2011

Saturday, 12pm to 6pm, The Hyatt Place, 42 W. North Street, Bethlehem

One’s health should never be left solely to chance, but sometimes it’s hard in our busy days to make sure we are making good choices and get the exercise we need. At the Lehigh Valley Health Expo, you will get the chance to talk with other health experts to learn new ways of incorporating healthy habits into your daily routine. This event will be educational and entertaining as there will also be music, food, children’s activities, and a stage for performers and panel discussions. Best of all, this event is free, so come on out and learn a few things for a healthier lifestyle!

8. “As They See It” InVision Photography Reception

Saturday, 4pm to 7pm, Just Around the Corner, 5A North Bank St., Easton

Come celebrate the works of 10 of our favorite photographers, as part of InVision Photography Month, a Lehigh Valley-wide photography event by ArtsQuest. The photographers will be on hand to answer questions and talk about their art form. Each brings their own unique perspective and voice to this medium, and the results are thought provoking and intriguing.

9. Shared Treasure: The Legacy of Samuel H. Kress

Sunday, 12pm to 5pm, Allentown Art Museum, 31 N. Fifth Street, Allentown

Kress, this showing is of 40 key pieces from Kress’s lifetime collection. He was particularly fond of work from the Italian Renaissance and other European artwork.
